It's really sad to see what happened to this game. Trials Evolution was one of the best, if not the best, gaming experiences I've ever had. I had it on the 360 and poured so much time into it. It was the community that sucked me in. I played the singler player for a while before dabbling in the track creation, and only because I had a project in mind that I wanted to see completed. I never really meant to become a editor junkie, but one private multiplayer led to a friend request which led to more private multiplayer which led to more friend requests. Before I knew it, I had maxed out my friends list on Xbox Live, which was crazy considering I only had about 20 people as friends on there before Trials. There were people on Trials all the time, and it was usually only a matter of seconds after my Xbox went online before I was in a party with a crew of Trials players. Trials to me was always about this community. Sure, I grinded out plats on all the single player tracks, but that was only because the community egged me on. Most of the time was spent either in the editor, working on something for friends to test in private mp, or testing out someone else's track in a different private mp session. There always was a nagging desire to test out something new in the editor, even if it never saw the light of day. Trying to find ways around the glitchy physics was like a somewhat broken jigsaw puzzle. It was a blast to see something that found ways around the limitations in the engine and made things happen that got everyone excited. If there wasn't multiplayer on Trials, I would have never gone to the forums or dedicated time in the editor. Then I gave my Xbox to someone, originally just to borrow while I moved. I had planned on taking it back, but for one reason or another I didn't. I gave up Trials cold turkey and the community faded away for me. I quit just as the first DLC was coming out, whatever time that was, and only came back into Trials when I saw Fusion on Steam. I was so excited to get back into it. I hopped on the pre-release beta as soon as I could. The magic formula is gone though. Maybe it will come back, but it was such a simple formula that I couldn't believe they would screw it up: Sharing creations with friends and constantly challenging yourself to improve. The second part is still there, but what constituted the heart of the game to me is gone. The leaderboard chasers can still enjoy this, but I never cared about that. If you can't play this game with friends, then there's no point in it for me anymore. I tried making a few tracks, but that was lacking too. Most of the fun in the editor never actually made it to the public, either because it was too stupid or glitchy to release or because it was just fragments of ideas that popped into existence for a single attempt and then was discarded. I tried to keep hope that Redlynx would fix things, but that has proved pointless so far. I'm partly upset with myself for falling for the pre-release trap. Even companies that you expect to make gold can produce plastic. You'll hear lots of words about the future of Fusion and how everything is going to be fine, but actions speak louder than words. Bringing out paid DLC before even finishing the features (multiplayer) advertised when I bought the game was the final knife in the back. Everytime I see Fusion in my library I wish it was worth playing, but until Redlynx brings in private mp again I won't touch it. Even if they do, I wonder if I'll have any interest left for it. Edit: So multiplayer is out, but it wasn't worth the wait for me. Just a revamped version of supercross, which I don't care about. All of the great tracks that have been created so far can't be played in mp because they aren't supercross. Supercross tracks take more time and effort to make well than a regular track takes, so I don't expect to see many really good supercross tracks. I would much rather play some well-crafted single player maps in ghost mode mp than supercross tracks, but it looks like that won't happen for fusion. In response to the question "So the lack of private multiplayer is what makes this game not recommendable? What about the rest of the game?" Yes, the rest of the game, in my opinion, is the same as or worse than Trials Evolution, so I would recommend get that instead. Community content keeps this game afloat, so not being able to enjoy community content with friends, supercross content aside, and not being able to get proper level creation feedback through private mp testing sessions is important. Trials Fusion is a work of beauty. I may not be an aficionado, having only spent ~100 hours playing the original. Mostly by myself, but often with friends, loving every second of it. I've probably crashed 100,000 times, but I have a few accomplishments in the more extreme trials that I'm proud of. If that describes your love of the game, then you will like this one too. I've read that some people have problems with framerates, but I have not. The video options allow for a lot of tweaking to match your video card's capabilities it seems. I have 18 hours clocked on Trials Fusion at the time of writing this review. Please take time to read the whole review... Don't get me wrong, by itself Trials Fusion is awesome. Great graphics, great scenery and overall it has a great feel to it. However, as a person who dedicated over 120 hours into Trials Evolution Gold Edition, I must say that Fusion is pretty underwhelming compared to it. First of all, there are significantly fewer levels in this game than there are in TEGE. It took me at least 20 hours to get the medal tally required to unlock the platinum medals. It only took me 4 hours to do that in this game. It definitely felt like a step backwards in content. This leads to the next point - Ubisoft decided that in order for us to get more levels, we'd have to fork out money for a season pass. That's right, they took our beloved Trials franchise and decided to include DLC in it. It definitely feels like a dog move against us. Lastly, they decided to leave out the most essential feature when they released this game - online multiplayer! And only this year they decide they're finally going to release it? Pretty crap if you ask me. Final verdict - If you have played Trials Evolution Gold Edition for a while and feel like playing some new, different levels, buy this game when it's on sale, as if you ignore all of its flaws it's a pretty good game. If you have never played a trials game before, buy Trials Evolution Gold Edition as it is a lot more funt o play than this game.
